SunPower’s Military Support Goes Beyond The Base
SunPower has been supporting the U.S. military for decades with cost-saving, reliable energy solutions. As SunPower continues to expand its network of military-related projects, it has also been investigating new ways to improve solar accessibility to service men and women once they move off base. As a result, SunPower recently announced the Military Alliance Program, an exclusive offer for current and former members of all branches of the U.S. military.
This $1,000 VISA Reward Card rebate1 for veterans and active duty military will help make solar power more affordable. In this way, the independence and security that comes with the SunPower name continues to serve those who have so honorably served our country.
As it relates to the national security of military buildings, all aspects of an operation must be fortified, including internal assets that are dependent on an electrical infrastructure like private data storage, security monitors and communication devices. That’s why many organizations within the U.S. government have come to rely on the premium solar solutions that SunPower provides. SunPower’s experience and unmatched expertise working with the federal government has led to more than 111 megawatts of solar installations for agencies related to the U.S. Armed Forces including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Solar power, coupled with battery storage, provides both the independence and protection a government institution needs to cover any vulnerabilities on the power grid. SunPower® solar panels are built to last, featuring Maxeon® solar cells that contain a strong copper foundation to withstand fierce weathering and similar disruptions that put traditional panels at risk. Backed by a 25-year industry leading warranty, SunPower products can be counted on to keep the power on for decades. Durability, quality and reliability are all attributes that come with the SunPower brand. They are the very attributes that government institutions look for when it comes to finding a secure solution that will help our men and women in uniform focus on what matters most.
For instance, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs took these factors into account when deciding to power their net zero base with solar energy. In fact, the academy installed a 6-megawatt SunPower solar system of nearly 19,000 solar panels over 41 acres of the base. By its third year of operation, their ground mounts had generated 11.2 million kilowatt-hours of net-metered power, leading to the additional benefit of reducing the USAFA annual utility bill by more than $650,000. These savings have been used to enhance education and training for the next generation of officers.
And this is just one of many stories where military forces have chosen to make the switch to solar energy. Other notable SunPower solar military installations include but are not limited to:
